Do you, like me, believe the headline up top to be true? We’ve got Brooklyn band Wild Pink and lead singer John Ross (shown at the top of the page!) to thank for that sentiment, a really worthwhile way of looking at life and considering how your own ledger starts to add up. In fact, Wild Pink are on the verge of releasing yet another critically acclaimed album (we’ve talked about them in the past via this newsletter, as you might recall), so I’d say it’s also worth revisting the excellent 2018 album “Yolk In The Fur,” from which we get today’s featured song. Of course, there’s winter menswear and gear up for the taking in today’s The Style Guide In Brief dispatch — as always, consider this your weekend guide for easy listening and easy, classic style. Where will this day go in your own ledger? Let’s find out.
What To Listen To This Weekend: “There Is A Ledger” By Wild Pink
Wild Pink’s introspective, soulful heartland rock, or rather just excellent indie rock, is perfect weekend listening distilled down into songs that make you pause, sit back and think. It’s introspective, meaningful music that cuts through the clutter, and that’s what I love about tracks like this one. That 2018 album really was remarkable, and a true favorite of mine that year, so you’d do well to brush up on this band in advance of the group’s next album “A Billion Little Lights,” due out on February 19th. As I’ve said to myself recently, I think Wild Pink are Brooklyn’s next banner-carrying rock band. If you wind up listening to ‘em, be sure to let me know.
What To Shop This Weekend: Taylor Stitch Cone Mills Long Haul Denim Jacket via UNCRATE
As per usual here at The Style Guide In Brief, we garner style inspiration today from our featured band — of course, that would be Wild Pink. Whenever I go to a concert (much more frequent in 2018, 2019 and early 2020 than right now!), I always take note of what the band is wearing — how you present yourself and how you play are inextricably linked, I think. I’ve taken note of lead singer John Ross’ penchat for classic Carhartt hats and rugged workwear jackets, fitting for taking on frigid Brooklyn nights (or, one assumes, getting around from venue to venue hauling your gear). It helps that this tough, rugged denim jacket from Taylor Stitch can be found at UNCRATE. You probably recognize excellent gear retailer UNCRATE from my regular blog, The Style Guide, and my post on the best new menswear to buy there, so it’s always worth stopping by the UNCRATE Supply Shop to see what else is new, this indie rock-ready jacket very much included.

What To Sip This Weekend: Sixpoint Sweet Action via Drizly
In the spirit of indie rock and fond memories of days gone by, I’m going to recommend a classic cold beer to be enjoyed as you spin your new favorite record. Or at least, this Brooklyn beer is a classic for me, coming from a lauded brewery that seems to be nearly everywhere around the borough, including at — you guesssed it —a Brooklyn rock show or two. Naturally, you can now get Sixpoint delivered by alcohol delivery service Drizly, but to me, Sixpoint Sweet Action, a surpisingly light-yet-flavorful crea ale, is best enjoyed in hand, under the lights at a Wild Pink concert. Here’s hoping one day!
The Final Pick: Clarks Wallabee Boots via UNCRATE
In keeping with the timeless, inspired music of Wild Pink, today’s final pick nods to an equally timeless, classic pair of boots you can wear around Brooklyn, at home, at the cabin or, well, just about anywhere. The Clarks Wallabee Boots really are classic in their own right, ready to be worn with slim blue denim or tan chinos and a shawl cardigan this winter, and then easily able to be teamed with light wash jeans and a pocket tee come spring and summer. Of course, it helps that you can also shop them via UNCRATE alongside other stellar gear picks.
If you ask me, these picks are all shaping up to help you on the path toward a perfect winter weekend, are they not? You’ve got the effortlessly casual and cool Clarks Wallabee Boots to wear in and out of the house, you’ve got your Sixpoint Sweet Action for an ice-cold refreshment (starting this Saturday night, in fact), and you’ve got your rugged denim jacket from Taylor Stitch as a crucial outer layer. Of course, it’s not complete without the soulful stylings of Wild Pink and introspective lyrics to really make you sit back and think (in a great way!) this weekend. With all that being said: Let’s make it count and let’s add this day to our ledger, the right way.
