Folks, well … WHAT A WEEK. Doesn’t need to be said again, and yet, here we are with the weekend edition of The Style Guide In Brief looking back at a span of a few days that have felt like years. If you’re joining me via your inbox, thanks for subscribing! And if my regular blog, The Style Guide, brought you here, then welcome once more. In these turbulent days, I’ve taken to, well, online browsing and men’s style writing, plus Brooklyn walks soundtracked by songs like today’s featured track, “By and By” via Columbus indie folk band CAAMP (in fact, that’s band co-founder Taylor Meier pictured at the top of the page — more on that in a second). Music that reminds me of home (in this case, literally — I spent summers in West Virginia, as mentioned in the song!) is always helpful and calming, and hopefully, you feel the same way after reading today’s newsletter. If not, well, I’ve also included some customary menswear and whiskey picks to ease your troubled mind. Heck, it’s also fitting that CAAMP itself stands for “Consuming Abnormal Amounts of Makers and PBR” — a la whiskey and beer, as fitting a combination as any for this weekend. With all that being said, let’s dive into it and get Saturday rolling.
What To Listen To This Weekend: “By and By” By CAAMP
While you can also go right ahead and check out the lyric video to “By and By,” I thought it’d be mighty fitting, soulful and just plain relaxing to offer up this neat making-of video when it comes to this introspective and lovely track. I appreciate this band’s Midwestern roots, to be sure, I appreciate the story behind this song and of course, I also appreciate the fact that CAAMP has partnered with Huckberry (one of my favorite retailers … ever) in the past. In fact, the CAAMP x Huckberry Capsule Collection is but a prime example of the ways in which music and style really are interconnected, if you ask me. If you put the care and craftsmanship into your music like the gentlemen in CAAMP do, that should be reflected in your personal style, right? Right! And Huckberry certainly delivers when it comes to gear made for a live well-lived and a life lived on the road (can’t wait until live music returns in force!). It’s pretty great stuff, if you ask me, and it’s a partnership (from 2019) that’s almost too perfect in how much it gets right. But back to the song. It’s a new favorite, it’s been on a constant loop for me these days, it reminds me of home and of simpler times and perhaps, maybe … it’ll be a new favorite for you, as well.
What To Shop This Weekend: Flint and Tinder Bone Button Western Shirt
If you checked out the CAAMP x Huckberry Capsule Collection earlier or if you’ve read my blog post on this shirt, then it’ll be mighty familiar to you. A classic Western shirt, especially from Huckberry, is one of those timeless and rugged style staples that every guy needs, especially when a normal itinerary involves a rock show, some whiskey and some beer (whether you’re in the band or not, I should add!). The Flint and Tinder Bone Button Western Shirt checks all the right boxes, from a classic-yet-tailored fit to a stonewashed finish that pairs up mighty nicely with black five-pocket pants and Blundstone boots for a fall weekend outing (a distanced brewery visit in particular might pair nicely with this shirt, in fact). How about that? Talk about a stellar combo. Well-done to Huckberry and Caamp.
What To Sip This Weekend: Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon via Drizly
As you well know, it’s Saturday. And if you’ve taken to listening to “By and By” on repeat, then you’ll know that the phrase “two fingers and a tight line” (whiskey and fishing, right??) takes on special meaning. To me, it naturally conjures up the great outdoors and a favorite pursuit of my great grandfather’s during his days in West Virginia (he was a Virginia Gentleman fan, and never failed to have a whiskey at 5 p.m. on the dot … he did live to be nearly 94!). For now, this Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon seems to be an accessible and mighty delicious bourbon to enjoy this weekend, and of course, you can get it delivered via Drizly in as little as an hour. My friends, cheers to that — indeed!
The Final Pick: Flint and Tinder 365 Pants in Straight Fit
Let’s go back one final time to the well-appointed (and still mostly well-stocked!) CAAMP x Huckberry Capsule Collection for today’s final shopping selection. The aptly named Flint and Tinder 365 Pants make an appearance in said capsule collection for their all-day versatility and comfort, and that really is saying something. It helps that these come in a cool-as-can-be Slate color for a bit of rock n’roll edge. Heck, I’ve worn my own pair to the office and then to a rock concert without missing a beat, and it helps that the hallmark style from Huckberry is available in both Slim and Straight fits. Whether you check ‘em out here or head to my blog, there’s no doubt that this isn’t the last you’ll hear of these stellar everyday pants.
Well, my friends. With some of these essentials handy, I’d say your weekend is shaping up to be much better than this past week, is it not? That’s certainly how I feel. As for me, I’ll be enjoying some fresh air and nice Brooklyn weather with Caamp in my headphones and the Flint and Tinder 365 Pants as part of my wardrobe. Of course, whiskey is also on the menu. If you want to connect with me further, be sure to give me a follow on Twitter or Instagram (or both!). Stay safe, stay strong and thanks for reading!
