What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, British garage rock a few quick spring recommendations
Did I get you with that headline there? It’s actually an homage to the excellent 2011 debut studio album from British post-punk rockers The Vaccines (what a name, ehh??) but I found it a pretty fitting way to lead things off today here with a shortened dispatch at The Style Guide In Brief, my music + menswear + craft beer newsletter. For all you newcomers: It’s a supplement to my regular daily blog, The Style Guide. But back to the vaccine(s). After some timely scrambling to schedule an appointment, I snagged the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine! Talk about the end (for now) of a long marathon —and that’s an understatement, although I know we’re not out of the woods yet.
That being said, it goes hand-in-hand with another big milestone, one that’s equally fitting for this weekend. Of note: Yesterday, I snapped up my first concert tickets in well over a year! The tickets in question will be to see the really emotional Memphis indie rocker Julien Baker on her extensive fall tour! If you want to read more about Julien, I wrote about her in this newsletter. But as to this fall’s tour, I’ve got a ticket for NYC’s Beacon Theatre and one in Washington, D.C. at the famed 9:30 Club (thanks to my friend Ian Kullgren!). I’m ALSO heading back to Detroit to see Julien play the Majestic Theatre. Incredibly epic — and all three in September! I positively can’t wait.
For now though, I’ve got some work to take care of, hence the abbreviated version of today’s newsletter. We’ll be back with a full dispatch Tuesday (hit Subscribe and tell all your friends!). As it were, I’ve been in the midst of covering the global luxury watch conference that is Watches and Wonders for Maxim. It’s a jam-packed (virtual) conference that features stunning new luxury watches from the likes of TUDOR, Panerai, Breitling and many, many more — that means I’m racing from Zoom call to Zoom call and learning all about new watch movements, designs and the like.
So, take these quick recommendations and use them as you will:
To Listen: Revisit The Vaccines’ debut on Spotify (and schedule your appointment ASAP!).
To Shop: Head to Huckberry to shop the best trucker jacket for all your spring layering
To Sip: My week has been powered by copious amounts of coffee, so give your own weekend a shot in the arm with Tallio’s Bayview Dark Roast Coffee from my friends at Bespoke Post
OK, folks. That’s all! Thanks for reading, enjoy the weekend, enjoy that coffee and that British post-punk rock, and enjoy reading about new watches aplenty from yours truly. See you back here on Tuesday, and be sure to check out my style blog this weekend for two spring-centric gear recommendations. Cheers!
