Thanks for joining me here for another dispatch of my (mostly) twice-weekly music and menswear newsletter, which is different (but somewhat the same) as my daily style blog from which it gets its name. Thanks for reading!
If you’re feeling both excited for 2022 and still reflecting ever so slightly on 2021, then you’ve come to the right place as we ease on into a new year in my music and menswear newsletter. I last wrote about an underrated holiday classic from The Replacements, the groundbreaking Minneapolis rock band, but I’ve since switched gears to listen to this lovely cover by crooner Ingrid Michaelson throughout the holiday weekend in New York City:
It really was a beautiful and fitting soundtrack as I spent New Year’s Eve back in NYC, cold beer in hand and thinking back to an unexpected and yet surprisingly great year in my freelance writing career. That includes daily posts at my long-running style blog, music feature stories at Atwood Magazine and new bylines at sites like SPY.com (be sure to head there for all your needs in terms of watch shopping, craft beer, new gear and more). I always like to take New Year’s Day off to rest and reflect in particular, helped along by great college football action and a cold Miller High Life at one of my new favorite Brooklyn sports bars, The Commissioner.
I hope you had the chance to get some similarly reflective and laidback time off — I even capped things off with a Sunday trek into Manhattan and a fitting holiday ale at the always-excellent Beer Culture. How did you spend these past few days?
At any rate, my point is this: With some much-needed time off, some wonderful music and some cold beer to celebrate (hopefully) good times ahead, I’m feeling very ready for a new year. I already filed my first deadline story of 2022, I’ve got designs on an upcoming music feature for Atwood Magazine covering Brooklyn synth pop band Nation of Language, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store the rest of this week yet (again, stay tuned!). So, thanks for reading, thanks for your support and here’s to 2022!
