Thanks for joining me here for another dispatch of my (mostly) twice-weekly music and menswear newsletter, which is different (but somewhat the same) as my daily style blog from which it gets its name. Thanks for reading!
If you caught my last newsletter, or if you follow me on Instagram, you surely know that I’m well along the holiday road enjoying some much-needed time off in Florida, packed up with the right gear (kind of like those Huckberry gear picks shown above — more from the San Fran retailer a second). Between visits from my brother & his family, and classic Christmas movies aplenty, it’s been a family & fun-filled week so far. Festivities were complemented by plenty of great beer (from Point Ybel Brewing in Fort Myers), stylish Christmas gifts for yours truly, and of course, a hearty helping of some of my favorite Christmas songs (one of which I’ll cover today in a few quick-hit picks). You should also keep your eyes peeled for a few end-of-year picks coming soon from yours truly over at indie music publication Atwood Magazine. So, what’s on the rest of your holiday agenda this week? Hopefully, good times, great food, better beer and excellent music. Let’s close out 2021 right, ehh?
To listen this week: I could recommend any number of my favorite Christmas songs, like the timeless classic “Mull of Kintyre” by Paul McCartney (which I wrote about last year!). Although it’s already past Christmas, I’m keeping it seasonal here. Pour yourself a dram of whiskey, kick back and chuckle as you listen to a demo version of “Bundle Up” by ‘80s Minneapolis rockers The Replacements. It’s clever, it’s funny and it’s only the sort of lyrical insanity that The ‘Mats could dream up.
To shop this week: For the next few days, at least, check out some rugged and winter-ready gear from the Huckberry End-of-Year Sale, with picks that will warm you through a Midwest winter like the one our guys in The Replacements frequently experienced (and one you might be familiar with yourself).
To sip this week: I’ll be enjoying some local craft beer in plentiful quantities the rest of this week, and I suggest you do the same (perhaps you’re able to get some beer delivered from Brooklyn’s Threes Brewing, and if so, I’d recommend that brewery wholeheartedly). If not, stock your fridge with my picks for the best craft beer over at SPY.
I’ll be sending out another dispatch (ideally!) before the new year, so stay tuned, stay plugged into your favorite music and here’s hoping you’re able to “bundle up” in style these days. Cheers and thanks for reading!
