Who’s ready to get back out there into the great wide open? I know today’s featured band, Lord Huron, would assuredly approve. We previously talked about Lord Huron in my last newsletter earlier this week, focusing on the excellent single “Not Dead Yet” off the folk rock band’s forthcoming album, but here’s a throwback track to kick your weekend off in suitably adventure-minded style. After all, that spirit of adventure is at the heart of the wonderful “Ends of the Earth,” a favorite of mine from the group. And you’ll also find similar fingerprints all over 2012’s “Lonesome Dreams,” an album that’s all about wanderlust, set atop twangy guitars and a shimmering landscape. It’s enough to make you want to close up shop for the weekend and hit the trail (that’s how I feel, at least).
It’s a harbinger of great things to come this season, with more vaccines on the way, great tunes on the horizon (Lord Huron releases a new album on May 21st!) and of course, a full rundown of weekend essentials (from menswear to music to whiskey) here at The Style Guide In Brief. If you’re just joining us, be sure to subscribe and tell all your friends. Let’s plug in and get your Saturday started.
What To Listen To This Weekend: “Ends of the Earth” By Lord Huron
If it’s been some time since you’ve listened to Lord Huron, or if you’re just reigniting your wanderlust and diving back into this band, there’s hardly a better place to start than this much-loved track, with lyrics that sing of a river “that winds on forever” and a land “that time don’t command.” It really is the perfect track to spur you on towards summer excursions and even lazy days in the park, and I know I’ll be listening to Lord Huron more and more as the album approaches (and as I plan a return to Michigan later this summer). This track is always a favorite of mine to spin when the weather turns warm and I hear the siren song to get back out there. Consider listening to this track the first item in your list of weekend essentials. Some shopping picks, and a crucial whiskey pick, will follow below. You know what to do!
What To Shop This Weekend: Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Selvedge Denim Jacket
Well, here it is. One of the best denim jackets I’ve seen in some time, and it’s also fitting that the Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon partnership is a fitting merger of menswear and bourbon (just the way I like it, after all). This rugged selvedge denim jacket calls to mind the rich craftsmanship inherent in crafting both bourbon and one of the best denim jackets for men, and it doesn’t get much better than that. It’s more than just a stylish jacket, though. 50 percent of proceeds from each jacket crafted go towards Stop AAPI Hate, another fitting partnership when you consider that the jacket features Japanese fabric and USA craftsmanship. This really is great stuff, folks.
Now, I previously covered Legent Bourbon on my daily style blog, but it’s always worth it to dive into the latest and greatest as far as summer-ready collaborations are concerned. And of course, as you know if you read this newsletter, I’m all about the fact that you can wear a classic denim jacket to… yes, a rock concert later this year. Stock up accordingly right now.
What To Sip This Weekend: Legent Bourbon via Drizly
Did you see this one coming given the denim jacket we talked about earlier? I hope so, and while bourbon might not on the surface seem like the most spring or summer-friendly spirit, you can certainly enjoy Legent Bourbon in an Old Fashioned or with an ice cube for a bit of a cooler take on what I view as a cold-weather staple spirit. I had the chance to test out Legent Bourbon last fall, and between the agreeable price ($40.67 via Drizly), the neat bottle design and the excellent whiskey contained therein, it’s a surefire seasonal sipper. Cheerrs to the weekend, folks.
The Final Pick: Handley Watches Bondi Watch
If you follow me on Instagram, you likely recognize Virginia-based watch brand Handley Watches, makers of premium-yet-affordable, refined sport and dress watches for the active guy on the go. The Handley Watches Bondi Watch is one of my new favorites from the brand, featuring the durability of a rubber-strap sport watch and the cool styling potential and rugged appeal of a traditional field watch. In short: It looks great, it’s tough enough to wear into the pool or the lake, and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg (the seriously cool Handley Watches Bondi Watch retails for $230). Handley Watches are made with waterproof rubber bands that accent crisp and stylish dials, all the better to wear if you prefer to have a timepiece on your wrist from sunrise to sunset. Plus, the Handley Watches Bondi Watch is going to look mighty cool alongside the rolled cuff of your rugged selvedge denim jacket. Time to stock up.
For me, this looks to be a pretty action-packed weekend to-do list, between spinning a favorite throwback track from Lord Huron and adding to my digital shopping cart (and my home bar cart). Maybe you’re already dreaming about the adventures you’ll have while wearing the Handley Watches Bondi Watch — and it’s a darn fine watch. Or perhaps the Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon denim jacket has caught your eye (it’s certainly got my full attention). Pair that new purchase with a fine pour of Legent Bourbon, and that’s the ideal spring weekend right there. Once again, cheers and thanks for reading!
