There comes a time — less frequent these days as in the past — where you’ve got to, as I say, “Buy the ticket now, figure out the rest later.” That’s been a motto that’s served me pretty well over the years as far as concerts and travel are concerned, from Mad Cool Festival in Madrid to All Points East 2019 in London. The adage is simple enough: Buy the ticket in advance, figure out how to get there after that. Am I alone in this method? Sometimes, I think not! It’s a phenomenon that’s been quite foreign since March 2020, with the pandemic putting a hold on my favorite form of travel — that of hitting the road to see one of my favorite bands, like The Killers. Lo and behold, travel and shows are coming back slowly but surely, and safely, so I find myself on a bus down to Pennsylvania right now to see an all-time great band led by Mr. Brandon Flowers himself. Do you have any shows lined up soon enough?
It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to see such a world-changing band (1 billion-plus streams of “Mr. Brightside” backs that up), and I’ll never get the over the chance to travel a relatively short distance, masked up, vaccinated and with a negative test in hand to see a band like this. In fact, this is the first of two shows in two days I’ll be taking in by the acclaimed group — one in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and the next in Philadelphia at the famed Franklin Music Hall, a comparatively tiny venue for the festival headlining-band. If it sounds too good to be true, well, believe me when I say I feel the exact same way. I already know it’ll be so worth the long bus ride, and that’s an understatement. So, my soundtrack is all set — it’s The Killers on repeat these next couple days. You don’t need me to make that recommendation for you, do you?
One last item of business before I wrap things up: If you could use a sipping suggestion for the week ahead, I wrote all about the best fall beers at Maxim. Shopping-wise, I’d recommend you head to my daily style blog to check out the latest on a jacket worn by James Bond in “No Time To Die.”
And now, I’ll leave you with some wise words from The Man, Brandon Flowers (skip ahead to 1:29:00 on the dot, folks). You can turn this one up and play it on repeat all day. I know I will.
