Although I normally try to keep to a strict Tuesday and Saturday schedule with my music-menswear-craft beer dispatches at The Style Guide In Brief (here’s my daily blog from which it draws its name!), the best-laid plans often go awry. In this case, that meant my two-leg flight from NYC back to Pure Michigan for a summer vacation turned into an hours-long debacle, starting with a layover in Washington, D.C. and ending with a cancelled flight & an extra night in… Arlington, Virginia! Not ideal when my best-laid plans involved a beer back at my old stomping grounds, HopCat East Lansing (Go Green!).
I’m still in the process of trekking back to the Mitten State (as I did earlier this summer), so today’s dispatch is brief. I do indeed have a beer to recommend (the tasty, English-style Port City Monumental IPA, local to the Virginia region — and enjoyed courtesy of a food & drink voucher from American Air!). Keep this fresh local IPA in mind for happy hour later. I’ve also got a quick listening recommendation — head to my last Saturday newsletter to listen to the soulful heartland rock of Wild Pink, one of my favorite bands of the moment. I’ve got another album I’ve been listening to as of yet, one that comes out later this month, and it follows in the same vein as Wild Pink’s textured folk-indie rock…. keep a weather eye out for the rest of my bylines here! (And hey, if you work with a brand that needs copywriting or media relations, I’m available!).
The rest of this week, I’m eagerly awaiting the release of The Killers’ 7th studio album, “Pressure Machine” — if this post-punk-inspired, heartbreaking 15-second snippet of “In The Car Outside” is any indication, this album is going to blow us all away. Naturally, I already know what I’m writing about in my Saturday newsletter. For now, I’ve got to make my way back home to Michigan. Thanks for reading — be sure to subscribe and tell all your friends!
