Well, my friends. You don’t need me to tell you what day it is, do you? (It’s officially Tuesday, for the record). It’s a very fitting day to lead off with “The Adults Are Talking” by The Strokes because, in fact, that’s what’s going on out there right now. It’s equally fitting that the stellar song, a modern-day Strokes classic, comes off the eerily prescient 2020 album “The New Abnormal” … a bit too spot-on, right? But let me offer a brief respite with today’s newsletter, where we’ll talk about some music for the week ahead, some menswear for the season and perhaps, an election night beer to imbibe (there, we’ve gotten that out of the way for now!). And if you don’t already subscribe to The Style Guide In Brief, or if you were sent this way from my blog, The Style Guide, now is as great a time as any to hit “Subscribe” below, or to share this one with a friend. Right? Right. Let’s get into it now.
What To Listen To This Week: “The Adults Are Talking” By The Strokes
You assuredly know the NYC rock legends from plenty of other places besides this newsletter (although they’ve previously made an appearance here!), but perhaps you also happened to catch ‘em on this past weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, as hosted by none other than comedian John Mulaney. They trotted out this fantastic song in an impassioned performance, the band’s first on the show since 2011, and I must say, I was mightily impressed by the effort. Julian Casablancas’ voice sounds as sharp as ever, and the band is on every bit as much of a roll as they were when I last saw them (just back in March in Seattle, in fact!). And of course, as we all know, the title itself is mighty fitting for today, is it not? Distract yourself for a while, at least, with this new, highly distinctive Strokes classic.
What To Wear This Week: Line of Trade Montana Winterized Denim Trucker Jacket
It’s high time you layered up accordingly for fall and winter, and with blustery weather aplenty rolling through NYC and well beyond, this rugged denim trucker jacket from Bespoke Post is a nice upgrade from the normal, still highly stylish, trucker jacket you might already have in your closet. In fact, the Line of Trade Montana Winterized Denim Trucker Jacket is a new favorite of mine, and with good reason. It takes the trucker jacket silhouette and amps it up even further, lining it with warm cotton flannel for a stylish contrast and rugged appeal. Although Julian Casablancas himself didn’t sport a denim jacket on SNL this past weekend, I’d wager that he’d assuredly approve. Get it now at Bespoke Post ASAP (plus, it’s a great reminder to bundle up and go vote if you haven’t yet!).

What To Drink This Week: Kings County Distillery Bourbon Whiskey via Drizly
In the spirit of today’s NYC-focused post (given that Bespoke Post is based in NYC and that The Strokes are, well, The Strokes!), I’m sending you over to Kings County Distillery’s Brooklyn Navy Yard operation to get arguably some of your new favorite whiskey. It’s the sort of spirit that just goes mighty well with election night jitters or, if you’d rather look at it another, with a crisp, windy fall night in an Old Fashioned. I tried out this Kings County bourbon myself earlier this spring, and I must say, I’m mighty pleased with how it worked on its own, on the rocks or in a favorite cocktail. Sounds ideal, right? And of course, you can get it delivered soon via Drizly.
The Final Pick: FRYE Walker Midlace Sneakers
Let’s close things out with a fitting pair of cool high-top sneakers for fall, the kind that (IMHO!) wouldn’t look out of place at a rock show, perhaps the next time The Strokes come to town. Now, don’t get me wrong — the FRYE Walker Midlace Sneakers aren’t cheap, but they’re an investment-level pair of kicks you can wear with everything from classic blue jeans and a henley to tan chinos and a navy blazer (on that note, you should check out my guide to the best navy blazers over at GearMoose). For now though, these sneakers will prove casual and stylish for many a fall and winter adventure. See you out there, in style, my friends.
Hopefully, this newsletter brought a bit of levity to your Tuesday … hopefully? And heck, at the very least, you’ve now got some new sneakers to shop, some new Brooklyn whiskey to enjoy and of course, a new-and-yet-classic song by The Strokes to spin tonight. I’ll keep this brief as we wrap it up, but I’ll see you back here on Saturday for our weekend edition of The Style Guide In Brief. Stay stylish, folks!
