There is, as they say, no rest for the weary this weekend for your friendly neighborhood style and music writer. Following two shows in two days in Pennsylvania by one of my favorite bands, The Killers, I’m back in NYC and packed up in a different way — camera gear in hand, I’m headed to the momentous music festival Governors Ball, celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend. It was six years ago that I first trekked to the festival, surrounded by its encouraging “You’re Doing Great” mantra, and I’ll need all the help I can get this weekend as I review concert sets by the likes of Baltimore synth pop band Future Islands (and more) for Atwood Magazine, a terrific indie music site for which I’ve recently started writing. A spoiler alert: Yesterday’s set was propulsive and simply incredible! Follow me on Instagram for more festival highlights. This is, of course, in addition to my menswear writing at the blog for which this newsletter is named, and my work at sites like AskMen.
It’s a seriously exciting time though, what with the return of the festival for the first time in more than two years. It’s also the festival’s first outing at Citi Field, where they’ve set up stages in an innovative round design to prevent sound from carrying over from stages. I’ve got a special place in my heart for the old festival location at which I first attended some shows — that’d be the picturesque Randall’s Island — but this year’s festival is no doubt special in its own right. I’ve got some writing and festival coverage to take care of yet today, so let my latest weekend style recap (over at The Style Guide!) serve as your list of fall recommendations, from beer to menswear.
And lastly: Thanks for reading!
